The pandemic proved to us that artists need a more sustainable business model and led us to a question (as well as a whole lot of paperwork):
The vast majority of organizations that purchase child-focused educational program offerings are non-profits, schools and local government entities, most of whom can’t afford to pay a rate that supports funding artists AND additional programming costs like marketing, materials, creation of new content etc.ย What if we could fundraise to cover unpaid operating expenses and offer subsidized event rates to the non-profits, schools, libraries and local government entities who hire us in the process?
Fast forward to autumn 2022… Meet Rainbow Socks, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization we formed in support of science and nature-focused music, theater and education for all!
Through grants, donations, and other fundraising efforts Rainbow Socks aims to support program expenses and sustain musical and theatrical nature and science-based programming, music, videos, and educational content, while keeping costs affordable to the community. We want the “barrier of entry” to programming to be as little as “knowing about the event,” keeping the vast majority programming free and open to all. This has been both the gift and the constant struggle ofย ourย work as artists, performers, and educators.
Now, with this new creation, and with your support, programming can continue toย be offered to all and expanded to new communities and people who needย programming that inspires joy, curiosity and connection to the natural world through the power of creativity and imagination. We are truly excited for this new chapter.
